Medical repatriation from Alicante, Spain

Rücktransport aus Alicante (Spanien)

A German citizen living in Spain had suffered a fracture to his thigh and therefore had been using a wheelchair for some months. As the injury had not completely healed after his treatment in Spain, the patient lived in constant pain. He therefore decided to seek further treatment in his home town of Hamburg. His family turned to us to handle the medical repatriation of their relative from Spain.

In our usual manner, we swiftly organised the repatriation to Hamburg and deployed a medically-equipped Cessna Citation 550 Bravo ambulance aircraft at Alicante International Airport on the agreed date. We designed the whole medical repatriation operation from Spain according to our comprehensive bed-to-bed principle in order to transport the patient as gently as possible: as well as the ambulance flight, we arranged the patient's journey from the Spanish hospital in Torrevieja to the airport by ground ambulance, as well as the journey from Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport to the Hamburg University Hospital.

Securing a hospital bed for the patient was also an important part of the medical repatriation in this case. We were able to fulfil the patient's wishes regarding the choice of hospital, while ensuring the best possible treatment in Germany.

After we had handed over the patient safely to the doctors responsible for his treatment in Hamburg, he had a successful operation and could then enjoy a significantly better quality of life, free from constant pain.
